Supporting Projects
This section highlights additional coursework and applied projects completed throughout my graduate program. Each project reflects a different aspect of shelter medicine, animal health, or community-based care, and demonstrates the development of my clinical reasoning, research skills, and understanding of animal welfare practices.
01
Enhancing Livestock Welfare
Course: VME 6934
This project explored best practices for supporting the welfare of miniature pigs and cattle within shelter and rescue environments. The final presentation focused on improving husbandry, medical care, behavioral enrichment, and long-term placement outcomes for livestock species commonly underrepresented in shelter policy and protocol development.
02
Humane Euthanasia
Course: VME 6817
This white paper examined the euthanasia policies and procedures at Critter Adoption & Rescue Efforts, Inc., with emphasis on alignment to AVMA and welfare-based best practices. The project evaluated current protocols and provided evidence-informed recommendations to ensure that euthanasia decisions and procedures are consistently humane, ethical, and compassionate.
03
Fish Tank Granuloma
Course: VME6934
This project involved the development of a community-facing social media campaign to raise awareness about Fish Tank Granuloma, including risk factors, routes of exposure, and practical prevention strategies. The PSA focused on clear, accessible communication to support public health, responsible pet ownership, and zoonotic disease awareness.
04
Cat Care Coalition
Course: VME 6818
This final project analyzed the implementation of the Hillsborough County Cat Care Coalition’s high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter program. The work highlighted program structure, operational considerations, community partnerships, and measurable outcomes in reducing free-roaming cat populations and improving access to care within the county.
